First and foremost is her ability to perceive the supernatural, being able to see and hear things that ordinary people cannot.

Chise is a magus (although officially an apprentice) meaning she can bend reality to her will with the help of magical creatures or "neighbours". While she possesses the potential to perform such miracles, she is still mainly studying the basics: folklore/customs/rituals, about the plants and creatures she will encounter and maybe use, and to hone her abilities at crafting potions and medicines.

The world has two types of magic users: magi, who absorb the ambient magic around them, and wizards, who convert the energy in themselves into magical power. Magi are the rarer of the two, but appear more potent in their magic (they are described as having direct access to the heart of reality whereas wizards must "hack" into the system) and seem to be held in better regard by sapient creatures. As a sleigh beggy, Chise is actually exceptionally good at both methods of producing magic, but her body is physically unable to keep up.

A rare existence described as being similar to that of a queen bee, she attracts magical creatures, sapient or not, to her. It can be because they look on her especially fondly or because she seems particularly tasty. (Or both.) Creatures may feel compelled to do things that they might not for others out of love or goodwill, although results may not always be positive since they do not follow human reasoning and many faeries are, by nature, mischievous. This innate affection seems to extend to more ordinary animals, who generally seem comfortable in her presence.

Like a sponge, she is able to absorb an incredible amount of magical energy from her surroundings and produce just as much, which can amplify the effects of even small spells. However, the strain of so much power constantly coursing through her body erodes at her life, drastically reducing her life span. Acts of magic, if she is not really diligent and careful, leave her drained enough that she can sleep for days or weeks. Being surrounded by nature (as opposed to developed areas) can help her recover faster.
